Dietary fibres are significant nutritional components in the diet of people with diabetes mellitus (DM). There are two types of dietary fibres: soluble and insoluble. It is recommended that diabetics mainly consume soluble dietary fibres (beans, peas, oats, barely, fruit and avocado).
Soluble fibres bind to cholesterol and sugars, slowing down their absorption. As a result, their adequate intake is necessary for the proper regulation of blood sugar and the effective control of cholesterol.
Specifically, it is recommended that the daily intake of dietary fibres (5-10 g) comes from oats and barley.
