Without a doubt, people with diabetes mellitus (DM) must consume snacks in between meals to avoid hypoglycaemia and achieve better glycaemic control. These snacks may contain carbohydrates in combination with proteins and lipids.
Consequently, the proper nutrition recommended in case of diabetes mellitus coincides with the general recommendations for a healthy diet, with a wide range of nutritional choices and more complex foods rich in carbohydrates in the daily diet.
